In the Fall of 2000

In the Fall of 2000, at a mere 18 years old, I finally met God in a way that was tangible, unlike anything I had experienced before, and life changing. Richmond, Virginia

I live in the inner-city of Richmond, Virginia. I live here for a variety of reasons, but most of which because I work for a non-profit that works with kids in this area. Funny enough, however, I feel as though I spent the majority of my youth attempting to leave the suburbs of this city and never return, yet I have found myself barely an hour from the home I grew up in and I love it. I love how this city is saturated with history. Did you know St. Johns Church, where the "Give me liberty or give me death" speech occurred is right here in Church Hill, Virginia? Or that Richmond, Virginia is actually the founding place of the trolleys that San Fransisco, California is known for? Or that those very trolleys were shut down by a boycott by local African Americans far before Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus? Richmond also has an incredible river - The James River - which is home to bald eagles, making us the only capital city in the contiguous united states to have them. Despite those facts being just a sampling of Richmond, you can see that it is fascinating and I can now see myself here for a long time to come.
